Core Beliefs
At Ontario Christian Church, our desire is to base our beliefs in God's word.
About the Bible
We believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, it guides our rules and our faith. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
About God
- God is Holy which separates Him from His creation. (Leviticus 11:44, 1 Peter 1:16)
- God is Omniscient (All knowing), Omnipresent (He is present everywhere) omnipotent (all powerful).
- We believe in the God-head, one God in three personages. God the Father, God the Son (Word), God the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1-3, 27)
- God is love and this love is perfect. (1John 4:8)
- God is justice and He will correctly and accurately judge His creation (Ezekeil 34:17, 2 Timothy 4:11)
About Jesus
- Jesus is God. (John 8:58)
- He gave up His heavenly abode, was born, died, was buried, and rose again from the grave (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)
- He is the creator and sustainer of all things Colossians 1:15-18)
- He is Savior and redeemer (2 Timothy 1:10, Galatians 3:13)
- He was and is the perfect sacrifice to be able to eliminate sin once and for all by dying on the cross at calvary as substitute for our sins. (2 Corinthians 5:21
- He is the Testator (the author and fulfiller of a testament) of the New Covenant (Hebrews 9:11-ff.)
- He is also the author and perfector/finisher of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2)
About The Holy Spirit
- He is the Helper and guide that revealed truth through Jesus and the Apostles. (John 16:1
- He is promised to dwell within the baptized believer instead of a temple of stone to be a part of the Christian to help him/her in his/her journey (Romans 5:13, 1 Corinthians 6:19)
- He speaks through the Bible and prompts us to live righteous lives and points us to Jesus. (1 John 4:6)
- He is a seal of promise to God. (Ephesians 1:13)
About Humanity & Sin
- All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)
- There is no one righteous not one (Romans 3:10)
- Sin brought death into the world (Romans 5:12)
- Sin corrupts and perverts the truth. (Romans 1:21-23)
About Salvation
- Salvation is a free gift from God.
- We are saved by Grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8)
- Faith in Jesus leads to a desire to submit and honor and obey the word of the Lord (John 14:15)
- Faith begins at understanding that Jesus is the Christ (Matthew 16:16)
- This leads a person to an understanding of their own sin and a desire to repent (Acts 17:30)
- Ultimately leading a person to be baptized (immersed) into Christ
- This connects a believer to the death burial and resurrection of Jesus. This is where a person receives the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38, Romans 6:1-11)
- This leads a person to work as a partner with God to fulfill the work here on earth. (Colossians 1:21-23)
About the Lord’s Supper or Communion
- We believe in the institution and practice of the Lord’s supper as the promise that Jesus is one day coming again for His children. Matthew 26:26-29)
- We observe this every week because of the example we find in scripture (Acts 20:7)
- We believe that Communion is for the obedient follower of Jesus.
About the Church
- Ontario Christian Church is part of the Independent Christian Churches that desire to go back to simplicity of the Bible, and restore back to the best of our ability the matters of faith and practice that are clearly seen in God’s word.
- Our goal is to speak where the Bible speaks and be silent when it is silent.
- We believe that the church is not the building, instead the church is the people who embody the loving, obedient faith in Jesus Christ together.
